General

The Diarrhoeagenic E. coli PCR Kit (EHEC, EIEC, EPEC, ETEC, EAEC) is for in vitro diagnostic PCR detection of diarrhoeagenic E. coli (DEC)1. The kit detects the 5 most important diarrhoeagenic groups that are pathogenic for humans; the enterohaemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC), enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC) , enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC), attaching and effacing E. coli (A/EEC), enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), and enteroaggregative E. coli(EAEC)2.

The detected groups of diarrhoeagenic E. coli and the genes used to determine them are set out below: 

• Enterohaemorrhagic strains (EHEC) - identification: demonstration of vtx1 and vtx2.  
• Enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC) - identification: demonstration of ipaH.
• Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) including the attaching and effacing 
  E. coli (A/EEC) - identification: demonstration of eae.  
• Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) - identification: demonstration of eltA, estA-human, or estA-porcine.  
• Enteroaggregative E. coli (EAEC) - identification: demonstration of aatA, aggR and aaiC.

The Diarrhoeagenic E. coli PCR Kit (EHEC, EIEC, EPEC, ETEC, EAEC) targets all 5 groups in a single reaction.
